GEO GLOSSARY

llms.txt

A proposed plain-text file, modeled on robots.txt, that gives AI crawlers and assistants a curated summary of a site’s most important pages.

Current status

llms.txt is an emerging, community-proposed convention, not an official web standard, and no major AI provider has publicly committed to reading or prioritizing it. Treat it as a low-cost, speculative addition rather than a dependable visibility lever.

What it typically contains

A short Markdown file at the site root listing the pages an operator considers most important — usually documentation, pricing and key product pages — with brief descriptions, intended to help a model orient quickly rather than crawl everything.
