The percentage of sampled AI answers that cite a brand’s own website or a subdomain of it as a source.
A citation means the model retrieved and pointed to the brand’s own page, not just a third-party description of it. It is the clearest available signal that a model is actually grounding its answer in the brand’s own published content — see LLM grounding.
These are independent: a model can cite a brand’s page while discussing a competitor, or mention a brand by name while citing only third-party sources. A durable AI-visibility strategy usually needs both — public pages worth crawling, and public reputation worth naming.
